2022 No Bell Luncheon

The Social Committee took a much-needed break for the summer after our exciting, first in-person, post-lockdown event – our wonderfully enjoyable Golf Tournament, and started the new school year by hosting the traditional celebration for the first day of school.

The No Bell Luncheon was held at the Mandarin Restaurant in Pickering where 155 members and their guests enjoyed their traditional delicious buffet. As usual, our longstanding patronage was recognised by a significant reduction in the regular price and so, after District 28’s generous reimbursement, members were able to celebrate very economically. Well over a dozen brand new  retirees were enthusiastically welcomed to this wonderful new lifestyle.

The general mood of celebration was reflected in the incredible generosity expressed in the collection of an astonishing $642 in the 50/50 draw which sent $421 to our new fundraising beneficiary, Hearth Place Cancer Support Center, Oshawa. Yes. You noticed that the donation amount was not 50%. That is because our wonderful winner, Nancy Dalrymple, promptly turned around and donated $100 of her prize back to Hearth Place. As was observed at the time “That’s the way teachers roll!”
