2022 Annual Golf Tournament

Jul 01, 2022

The Annual RTOERO District 28 Golf Tournament, our first in-person event since the beginning of the Covid Pandemic, went spectacularly well. That is not just our opinion, it is based on the comments and compliments we received from our members and their friends. The rain abated just in time for teams to hit the links and apart from one or two anxious moments involving a couple of phones, everyone was happy and smiling as they returned to the clubhouse from the two courses, Meadow and Creek. The Sunnybrae staff were wonderfully helpful, enthusiastic and totally unflappable.

In all 46 players attended, 34 members and 12 friends, of which 37 stayed for the barbeque luncheon on the patio. The Co-chairs of the D28 Social Committee,  Charmaine Huculak and Penny Kutlik would like to thank our incredible team of volunteers: Sue Nieuwenburg, Edith Hoekstra, Sharon Lohan, Maureen O’Reilly, and Robin Helgeson, Dave Huculak, and Don Farquharson, for all their help.  We could not have done it without you. What a great gang to work with.

EVERYBODY WAS A WINNER! Every player received a sleeve of 3 Titleist Pro V1 Balls, there were Draws for Sets of Balls, $25 Gift Cards, and various Golf Goodies.  In particular, we presented the following qualified prizes:

LOWEST SCORE was awarded to Mark McGee, who won A round of Golf for 2 donated by Sunnybrae Golf Club

HIGHEST NUMBER OF BIRDIES recorded by Mike McLean, who received 1 Dozen Titleist Pro V1 Balls

CLOSEST TO THE PIN on the CREEK was  Al Drennan,  and on the Meadow was Mary Zupancic. They each received 1 dozen Titleist Pro V1 Balls

LOWEST TEAM SCORE went to Suzanne & Mike McLean and Donna & Brian Dobbin who received 6 Titleist Pro V1 Balls each

MOST HONEST GOLFER was Patricia McCollum who scored an impressive 80 and received a Bottle of Wine

HIGHEST NUMBER OF SWINGS ON A SINGLE HOLE was claimed by Lynn Featherstone who also received a Bottle of Wine

HIGHEST TEAM SCORE was gleefully reported by Marg Hawkins and Sue White and their guests, who each also received a Bottle of Wine. The last 6 winners didn’t need to be reminded not to drink and drive, but it was suggested that perhaps they shouldn’t drink and putt, either.

SUNNYBRAE GOLF CLUB not only catered cheerfully and efficiently to our every need, but generously provided our First Prize of a Round of Golf for 2

GOLF TOWN, WHITBY provided significant discounts on top notch Titleist golf balls which allowed us to purchase the prizes that were so well received by our players. They also provided generous discount cards for every player and the $25 gift card.

SPORTCHEK, TAUNTON & HARMONY, OSHAWA gave us a $150 donation of golf balls and tees providing several draw prizes and swag for all.

PEARL VISION, TAUNTON ROAD EAST, OSHAWA kindly donated eye glass cleaner, cleaning cloths, and promotional magnets for every golfer.

D28 RTOERO provided Logoed Stylus Pens, ROCKY MOUNTAIN ORTHODONTICS (CANADA) donated reusable shopping bags, DURHAM REGIONAL POLICE SERVICES sent us Faraday security bags, and JACQUELINE DICK gave us all manner of Tupperware goodies, all of which provided ‘Swag bags’ that were well received by all.

We hope to see you on the course next year!!
